Celebrating the 30th anniversary of democracy in Olomouc

Thirty years have passed since the fall of communism in Czech Republic and that is why we, too, have taken part in the art celebrations on 17 November. Several diverse events took place in Olomouc on this anniversary. The Chaos Company attended the main celebrations at Palach Square on the day of this holiday In cooperation with Palacký University and Tramtárie Theater. For this happening, the theater provided us with a shipping container 13 meters in width and 3 in height as a canvas to express on the subject of revolution. This resulted in large-format spray painting. Our intention was to recall the revolution mood 30 years ago.

In this work, our goal is to respond to the atmosphere of the Velvet Revolution. The blind girl clutches a key that unlocks freedom. Behind the walls full of messages and demonstration slogans, there is freedom and a new beginning in the form of abstract lines and playful shapes that overlap the walls.

The figure of a woman can symbolize a blind girl from a song by Karel Kryl or a figure of justice who is blind. The color scheme of warm and colorful shades evokes enthusiasm, joy, better tomorrows, while the grim gray indicates the cramps and despair of the totalitarian regime.

The next day, 18.11.2019, there was another event called Velvet Reconstruction organized by Palacký University in front of the Faculty of Law. We also participated in this event as lecturers and provided an organizational course of the event. It consisted of rebuilding the box wall with different slogans and messages. That should remind you of this event 30 years ago.
